The Grainger College of Engineering Office of Undergraduate Programs - Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment team seeks an Academic Advisor & Coordinator for Undergraduate Transfer Recruitment. Directly reporting to the Assistant Director for Transfer Programs, the person in this role is responsible for advising prospective transfer students and coordinating and executing programming to support the recruitment of transfer students into The Grainger College of Engineering. The coordinator works with Grainger Engineering Pathways Program students and external transfer students to support their understanding of admissions requirements, course transferability, and degree requirements. The Grainger Engineering Pathways program provides a guaranteed admission process through a series of course and grade requirements for students attending all community colleges in the state of Illinois. The students in this program are advised and monitored as they progress through the program.

Job Summary

Provide admission advising to transfer students (external transfers and pathway program participants) interested in applying to and enrolling at The University of Illinois Grainger College of Engineering. To coordinate programming to support the recruitment and yield of prospective transfer students.

Duties & Responsibilities

ADVISING

  • Assist prospective transfer students with understanding university, college and major-specific admission requirements, course transferability, and degree requirements. Assist students with schedule planning.
  • Advise current and prospective Grainger Engineering Pathways participants on course selection and program policies and requirements; provide schedule checks; participate in standing review, including communicating decisions.
  • Serve as a college-level resource for prospective transfer students and students who have transferred to Grainger Engineering
  • Respond to transfer admission inquiries by phone, email, in-person, and during online advising sessions.

PROGRAMMING

  • Lead programming for Parkland Pathways students including instruction and continuous improvement of ENG 199: Introduction to Engineering. This course communicates and facilitates transfer student participation in college and campus opportunities.
  • Assist with the development, planning, and implementation of ongoing programs for students at all stages of the transfer process, such as summer transition programming, Grainger Engineering Pathways orientation and welcome events, and assist with improvement to these programs and development of new programs.
  • Support the Grainger First-Year Experience team during the Transfer New Student Registration process.

RECRUITMENT

  • Contribute to the Recruitment Committee, which assists efforts to recruit and matriculate students, as needed by developing strategies for general recruitment of external transfer students and in-state students into the Grainger Engineering Pathways program; this includes collaborations with other college units like Morrill Engineering Program and Women in Engineering to increase enrollment in underrepresented groups.
  • Work with the Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment team to plan and implement strategies for ransfer recruitment, including site visits to Illinois community colleges. Create presentations and workshops for transfer recruiting and other events.

INTERNAL ADMINISTRATION

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student employees who will support transfer initiatives.
  • Assist with preparation of an annual report for Grainger Engineering Pathways Program.
  • Perform other educational, advising, and transfer-related duties to further the mission of The Grainger College of Engineering.
  • Support the overall admissions, recruitment, and event operations of The Grainger College of Engineering Undergraduate Programs Office.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s Degree.
  • Two years of professional-level work experience, preferably with college students.
  • Education, training and/or work experience working with administrators and/or stakeholders.
  • Education, training and/or work experience with student activities and/or programming.
