The New Product Development Engineer is a position focused on new materials and processes to facilitate fast-paced growth initiatives of the Company. This position focuses on materials and processes related to cement-bonded, chemically bonded & phos bonded hard refractories used in the aluminum, power generation, chemical processing and petroleum industries. Additionally, the R&D New Product Development Engineer will improve upon existing materials through innovative use of new and/or alternate raw materials.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Development of new materials and Products in growth-oriented, fast paced development environment.

  • Collaborate with broad range of technical expertise throughout the company

  • Improve upon existing materials and products.

  • Laboratory testing and evaluation of raw materials and refractory systems to ensure new products meet or exceed target characteristics

  • Failure analysis – be a technical resource for material related failures

  • Establish and maintain development project timelines and status updates

  • Provide technical support and assist with scale up of new materials & processes into manufacturing

  • Qualify new and/or alternate raw materials for existing formulations

  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives as required

  • Technical resource to Sales, Engineering and Operations

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • BS in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Chemistry

  • Proven track record in fast-paced, innovative development environment

  • At least 2 years of experience in related role within a manufacturing company

  • Proficient in MS Office applications & virtual meeting environments (Teams, Zoom, etc.)

  • Proficient in laboratory testing methods and equipment

  • Experienced working in cross-functional and cross-site teams and working as an individual contributor

  • A background as a problem-solver

Preferred qualifications include:

  • MS in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Chemistry

  • Proven track record in fast-paced, innovative development environment

  • Demonstrated experience in hard refractories

  • Experience in DOE (Design of Experiments)

  • Has knowledge in data-driven process control or basic SPC discipline

  • Familiarity with data acquisition methods and software
