MECHANICAL FABRICATOR MIG WELDER JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
This position is available for lower-level to upper-level candidates, depending on experience, within our mechanical fabrication department. Responsibilities include layouts, fabrication, installation, and repair of mechanical components for industrial autoclaves, ovens, and related equipment.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete new hire fabrication training and demonstrate aptitude for fabrication tasks.
- Follow drawings and work instructions to build mechanical components such as frames, tanks, heaters, cooling coils, valve trains, floors, silencers, and platforms for autoclaves and ovens.
- Uphold ASCs safety culture by working safely and preventing injuries.
- Complete safety forms and attend safety meetings.
- Prepare materials for fabrication or integration into final equipment.
- Work under the supervision of a production lead or independently to fabricate various sizes of autoclaves.
- Measure, cut, plasma cut, saw, grind, install, and weld with a variety of materials including insulation, plumbing components, steel plate, steel pipe, sheet metal, angle, PVC pipe, and fittings.
- Clean, paint, wrap, move, and load completed products for shipping.
- Utilize industrial machinery and tools, including various saws, drills, grinders, and drill presses.
- Weld using a MIG welding machine.
- Travel domestically and/or internationally to customer sites for fabrication, installation, and repair tasks.
- Demonstrate compatibility with ASCs Team Values by working safely, maintaining a positive attitude, leading by example, showing eagerness to learn, being a team player, working efficiently, and focusing on quality work.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
This role is part of the mechanical production team, supervised by Production Leads and reporting to the Mechanical Production Manager.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Welding skills required, with the ability to pass a welding test.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and proficiency in using tools.
- Ability to read and understand drawings and written instructions.
- Good communication skills.
- A positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to work in a team environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The following physical capabilities are essential for safe job performance:
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 70 lbs. and twist at the waist.
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent pushing and pulling of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Capability to stand, sit, walk, squat, kneel, and lie on various surfaces.
- Normal balance and coordination while reaching through low and high ranges.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, up to 10 hours.
- Manual dexterity for using common tools.
- Ability to climb using three points of contact.
- Capable of working in extreme temperatures (hot and cold).
- Normal ranges of color vision, hearing, and vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Candidates must be able to work safely in a heavy manufacturing environment, with exposure to various weather conditions, noise, and dust/particles from welding and fabrication activities. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, including hard hats, steel-toed shoes, protective glasses, and ear protection. Additional protective devices may be necessary depending on specific tasks.
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6am to 4:30pm Friday, 6am to 3pm
