Amazon Software Development Manager, Hiring Software Delivery in Vancouver, British Columbia

Key job responsibilities

  • Work backwards from the customer to invent new solutions and to improve existing software.

  • Work with the executive leadership and technical leaders to define the product direction.

  • Create vision and execution documents. Insist on the high bar for technical documentation and the quality of the developed software.

  • Hire, coach, and promote software engineers.

  • Ensure the right thing is being built and delivered to customers.

A day in the life

Your day may be dedicated to solving a peculiar problem: how do you automate a system among actors who only have soft commitments that they could withdraw at any time?

As a Software Development Manager you will be responsible for leading a strong team of engineers, in addition to:

  • Leading by listening and collaborating.

  • Driving a culture of excellence; grow and mature a team to take them to the next level.

  • Being an excellent communicator, both verbal and written.

  • Being curious, love problem-solving, diving deep, collecting data to make well informed decisions; using sound judgement in the face of insufficient data.

  • Following the latest technologies and motivate your teams to innovate.

About the team

The team, Scheduling Automation, owns the full service stack needed to automate candidate-interviewer scheduling. We are continuously experimenting, measuring, and learning because Amazon candidates deserve an experience that is respectful, straightforward, and frustration-free, and Amazon interviewers deserve predictable scheduling experience. We combine product development, technology investments, UX research, scientific analysis, big data analytics, and process optimization.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary for this position ranges from $171,400/year up to $286,200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
