Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team in the Pacific Northwest. The position reports to the Area Manager, Health & Safety. The area of responsibility will include all operations in South Washington and Oregon and will be based out of the Vancouver, WA office.

What You'll Get to Do:

  • Implement and support all safety & health programs including all regulatory compliance programs and the company’s Safety/Health Management System.

  • Provide on-going safety & health support and guidance to plant/mine management and employees.

  • Continuous interpretation and compliance planning for current and emerging safety regulatory requirements at all levels affecting the assigned facilities including State, Federal, and local legislation.

  • Monitor and proactively report facility safety & health performance.

  • Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of Corporate guidelines, completion of required training, and monitoring compliance.

  • Proactively manage safety and health of employees to continuously improve the company’s safety and health performance.

  • Management of workers’ compensation (L&I), automotive and general liability claims.

Who we are looking for :

  • The ideal candidate will have 5-8 years’ experience of relevant safety experience with a strong MSHA & OSHA background in the heavy manufacturing, building materials or construction industry.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant safety experience or equivalent combination.

  • Post-secondary training in OHS, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent program.

  • Experience managing OSHA regulated facilities and return-to-work programs.

  • Experience managing workers’ compensation (L&I), automotive and general liability claims.

  • Experience and competence in developing and implementing safety programs.

  • Strong communication and influencing skills at all levels from senior operation leadership to production level employees.

  • Competent in coaching and teaching of operations and personnel

  • Strong time management and critical thinking.

  • Competent in Federal, State, and local Safety and Health regulations and agencies affecting the assigned facilities.

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or working towards preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.

  • Have a valid WA or State Driver’s license with a clean and insurable driving record and be capable of maintaining a clean and insurable driving record.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check.

  • Applicants must be residing in and currently authorized to work in the US.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment and computer systems; visual acuity required to read, verify, and enter various data from documents related to the work.

  • Work is conducted in the field and office. Role operations primarily in environments where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, cold, humidity, and elevated noise level.

  • Ability to work Saturdays and on an occasional Sunday if needed.

  • Have the ability and desire to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds to chest height.

  • Ability to climb ladders, ascend stairs and walk on uneven surfaces.

  • Must be able to hear and communicate with others.

  • 50-75% local travel within assigned area (South Washington & Oregon).

  • 5% travel outside assigned area, generally, for corporate and team meetings.
