The Lee County Library System is seeking enthusiastic and community-minded candidates to join our dynamic team at either the Cape Coral - Lee County Library or the East County Regional Library.

  • Cape Coral - Lee County Library:

  • Established in 1962, this 40,000-square-foot facility in Cape Coral features meeting rooms, conference spaces, a butterfly garden, and numerous computers for patron use. Our staff assists a diverse demographic population, including the 200,000 residents of Cape Coral.

  • East County Regional Library:

  • Opened in 2001, this 31,000-square-foot library serves an unincorporated, fast-growing area of Lee County. Our patrons come from all walks of life, and the library is particularly popular among middle and high-school-aged youth during school afternoons.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide stellar customer service by assisting patrons of all ages using Library resources and services, including computers, electronic resources, reference and readers’ advisory.

  • Maintain a regular schedule of collection maintenance and promotion of the adult's collection through weeding, selection, and displays.

  • Demonstrate a proficiency in readers’ advisory to adults.

  • May be assigned to participate in branch-specific and system-wide committees.

  • Present tours and programs for school and community groups visiting the library.

  • Provide technology training to staff and patrons

  • May be in charge of the library for specific days or shifts.

  • Explain and administer library policies and procedures.

  • Actively seek and participate in professional development opportunities and stay abreast of emerging technology and trends.

  • Communicate and work effectively and tactfully with co-workers, sharing information and working cohesively as a team.

  • Plan and present programs and activities for adults at the library and at outreach locations.

  • May supervise paraprofessional personnel.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Library or Information Science, or a closely related field from a graduate library school program accredited by a professional library association or a Bachelor’s Degree with current enrollment in a graduate library school program accredited by a professional library association and a projected graduation date within six (6) months of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate library school program accredited by a professional library association or a Bachelor’s Degree with current enrollment in a graduate library school program accredited by a professional library association and a projected graduation date within six (6) months of hire.

  • Prefer one year of library or closely related experience.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is preferred.

  • Spanish Speaking: Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Flexibility and Scheduling:

  • Location Transfers: May be required to transfer to other library locations.

  • Work Hours: The position requires 80 hours bi-weekly, including evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays.
