Job Description

POSITION IS OPEN TO CURRENT DNR LED/EGLE EMPLOYEES ONL Y, WILL BE A WORK-FROM-HOME LOCATION :

Serves as a supervisor of the conservation officer (CO), CO recruits, probationary conservation officers (PCO), and professional positions responsible for statewide programs in this section. The duties include recruitment of CO candidates, employment requirements and standards for training program of CO recruits and PCO’s. Responsible for the solicitation, training, and supervision of division recruiters, pre-screening interview panels, background investigators, training academy instructors, recruits, field training officers (FTO) and probationary conservation officers currently working through the probationary training program (PTP). Compose, arrange, and prepare both entry-level training and continuous trainings for each of these division positions. Perform Training Academy Commander duties, to include solicitation, selection, training and supervision of instructors, recruits, and probationary officers. Responsible for preparing training academy schedules and academy logistics. Acts as division’s direct liaison to the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). Responsible for acquiring appropriate training facilities and other logistics to administer multi-week training academies of CO recruits and PCO’s.

This position is MCOLES certified and required to carry a firearm. The position needs to be in the DART, gun carrying designation. Must be knowledgeable of work rules, policies, and contractual provisions; investigates and enforces work rules, policies, and contractual provisions.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and completion of required Basic Law Enforcement Officer Training Program.

Experience

Four years of experience equivalent to a Conservation Officer, including three years equivalent to a Conservation Officer E11 or one year equivalent to a Conservation Officer 12

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
