Description

Under general supervision (Rad Tech-PDP II), or direction (Rad Tech-PDP III/IV), prepares and positions patients for various medical imaging procedures, makes exposures, and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images for interpretation by the radiologist in an accurate and timely manner.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned ultrasound technician with extensive years of experience conducting ultrasounds in a hospital setting. They are adaptable, and highly skilled in performing accurate and detailed imaging studies while maintaining a compassionate and patient-centered approach.

PAYROLL TITLES AND APPROXIMATE SALARIES:

Radiologic Technologist - Per Diem Pool II: $38.84 per hour

Radiologic Technologist - Per Diem Pool III: $45.88 per hour

Radiologic Technologist - Per Diem Pool IV: $49.41 per hour

Per Diem Pool (PDP) classifications are distinguished from the Regular classifications in that the incumbents in these classifications receive limited benefits. They will receive shift differential, standby and callback premium pay and will participate in the Ventura County Employees' Retirement Association if they are assigned a biweekly work schedule of 64 hours or more. Incumbents hired into these positions are not guaranteed any specific number of work hours per biweekly pay period, and management has the authority to relieve them from duty when there is insufficient work.

AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency – Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital

Radiologic Technologist-Per Diem Pool II/III/IV are represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and are eligible for overtime compensation.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Per Diem Pool vacancies within the Health Care Agency. There is currently one (1) vacancy.

NOTE: If appointed at a lower level, incumbent may be promoted to higher levels without further examination upon meeting the minimum requirements, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and in accordance with the business needs of the department.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

OPENING DATE: January 2, 2025

CLOSING DATE: Continuous and may close at any time; therefore, the schedule for the remainder of the process will depend upon when we receive enough qualified applications to meet business needs. It is to your advantage to apply as soon as possible.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepares and positions patients for examination according to approved departmental procedure;

  • Assists in maintaining files, records, and reports according to departmental policy;

  • Works in pressure situations with staff, physicians, and critically ill patients;

  • Completes documentation associated with the examination and billing processes utilizing department information systems;

  • Assists, lifts, and transports patients to and from Ultrasound department;

  • Participates in the Ultrasound Standby rotation;

  • Works at both VCMC and SPH Ultrasound departments;

  • Transports patients to and from the radiology department when necessary; and

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Qualifications

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE

Radiologic Technologist - Per Diem Pool II

  • Graduation from a program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professionals (CAAHEP) that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology; OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in sonography or vascular technology; OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in any major and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time clinical ultrasound experience. (NOTE: this experience cannot be used to satisfy other experience requirements outlined below for Radiologic Technologist III and IV)

Radiologic Technologist - Per Diem Pool III

In addition to the requirements for Rad Tech - PDP II, the Rad Tech - PDP III also requires:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of ultrasound experience

Radiologic Technologist - Per Diem Pool IV

In addition to the requirements for Rad Tech - PDP II, the Rad Tech - PDP IV also requires:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of ultrasound experience

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing to work various shifts at Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital. This includes, but is not limited to, weekends, holidays, standby, and callback shifts

  • Must possess a valid CPR certificate by date of hire and maintain it thereafter

DESIRED:

  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification

NOTE: Duties are performed in an acute care setting and include frequent lifting of and/or transportation of patients by wheelchair or gurney/stretcher; moving imaging equipment to patient’s bedside for portable studies and standing for extended periods of time; possible continued exposure to x-radiation scatter; and exposure to various types of infectious diseases, blood, body tissues or excretions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of: anatomy, physiology, physics and medical terminology as it relates to ultrasound; adherence to HIPAA regulations; exam specific requirements when imaging neonates, pediatric and adult patients; and documentation required for exam billing processes.

Skill in positioning patients for image acquisition including shielding per ALARA.

Demonstrated ability to: perform routine and complex and/or specialty imaging services studies to include measurements of normal and abnormal pathology and detailed anatomical statistics; establish effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and staff; provide clear and concise explanations to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and proficiently perform exams requiring sterile field set-up and maintenance.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION - 100%: A job-related written examination will be administered to test candidates' knowledge of ultrasound, data review, and interpersonal relationships. Candidates must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.

Applicants successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
