Job Title: Forklift Mechanic

Job Description

A Forklift Mechanic position requires a comprehensive understanding of the principles and methods of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting, as well as the overhaul repair of diesel and electrical equipment. This role necessitates strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The mechanic must be capable of repairing or overhauling major assemblies and systems, including power train differentials, transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, and related electrical, electronic, hydraulic, fuel, and other sub-assemblies by following instructions contained in applicable technical manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and overhaul major assemblies and systems, including power train differentials, transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, and related sub-assemblies.

  • Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting and repairs on diesel and electrical equipment.

  • Follow instructions from technical manuals to complete repairs and overhauls.

  • Maintain and utilize a variety of test equipment, such as engine analyzers, dynamometers, injector tests, voltmeters, gauges, micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.

  • Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.

  • Order proper parts and identify the correct parts for replacement.

  • Troubleshoot MHE/SMSE, isolate problems, and repair without unnecessary part replacements.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience as a mechanic on the repair and overhaul of shipboard MHE and SMSE.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English.

  • Proficiency in using industry-standard metric and non-metric tools.

  • Experience with diesel engine repair, suspension and steering, transmissions, transaxles, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, and overall maintenance techniques.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.

  • DBIDS certification.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Non-expired ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification.

  • Experience with engine analyzers, dynamometers, injector tests, voltmeters, gauges, micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.

Work Environment

You will be working at NNSY or NOB facilities, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and equipment. This role may involve working independently or as part of a team, following established safety protocols and adhering to a professional dress code.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $35.00
