Global Technical Systems (GTS) provides innovative, cost-effective, high-tech engineering products and product-based services encompassing latest generation software and hardware solutions and engineering services for defense, homeland security, and other critical Government interests. GTS products and services span a spectrum that includes mission-critical combat systems processors; C4ISR; technology development including threat detection, biometric identification systems, and composite applications for munitions, armor and energy storage; avionics test systems; and lifecycle logistics support and repair. Our Headquarters office in Virginia Beach, VA is searching for a Mechanical Engineer II

How your expertise will fit into GTS world:

General Description: Provides technical support and original design inputs for complex systems, specifically mechanical systems and subsystems. Applies system, hardware, and software knowledge, as applicable, to the development of new products from concept through production, and the redesign / modification of existing systems. Performs analyses and trade studies and provides technical input to specifications that support system and module design and enhancement. Evaluates and recommends options and alternatives for system and module level components. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides original design inputs to the development of complexmechanical engineeringprojects.
  • Supports investigations and engineering evaluations of highly complex projects and products.
  • Evaluates vendorcapabilities forprovidingtherequiredlevel of performance ofproducts and/or services.
  • Works with team members, including other engineering disciplines and program management, to transfer ideas into core product processes, facilitate / implement design ideas, and improve existing products.
  • Interactswith customers, vendors, engineers, productionpersonneland program managementto successfully complete projects.
  • Provides technicalconsultation to the engineering team.
  • Provides contributions to bothsystem level and module definition.
  • Prepares requirements documents and detailed specifications,as required,to define and allocaterequirements tosystemsand system components.
  • Works withteamsof highly skilled professionals to research, design and develop new and complex systems and architectures.
  • Considers approaches and techniques for rapid prototyping, full scale (production) development and test.
  • Participatesin technical discussions to develop product ideas and resolve problems.
  • Conducts technical research to understand alternate approaches to a problem and / or technical issues. Provides justification and support of the merits of a proposed solutionto senior staff members.
  • Originates design documents and concept papers consistent with project efforts for review by senior members of the technical staff.
  • Performsengineering calculations, analyses and simulations as required. UtilizesComputer-Aided Designtools tocapture,document, and validatedesign artifacts where applicable.
  • Reviewsdrawings and technical papers for compliance with project / program requirements.
  • Creates and manages Billof Materials(BOMs).
  • Managesmultipleprojects simultaneously.Functions as a contributor to cross-functional teams. Reportsproject status as needed to management and takesnecessary steps to maintain project design schedules.
  • Provides tutoring / mentoring tojunior members ofthe technicalstaff.

Work Experience Requirements: 3-7yearsrelevant engineeringexperience in a mechanical engineering discipline.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

  • Ability to prepare and present technical information.
  • Experience and proficiency using Computer-Aided Design tools (e.g.,Solidworks,Inventor, AutoCAD)and Finite Element Analysis software (e.g.,ANSYS)as applicable.
  • Experience working withEnterprise Resource Planning (ERP)system. (e.g.,Costpoint)
  • Strong organizational skills: demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Goodunderstanding of mechanical engineering in area of expertise, and capability to support other mechanical engineering related disciplines.
  • Ability to work both independently and in highly collaborative teams.
  • Ability to accurately articulate concepts, theories and system design attributes totechnicalteam members.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DoD security clearance

Beneficial Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with government programs and defense systems
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
