Amentum Fleet Operations Foreman in Antarctica

Position Responsibilities:

  • Implements and maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority.

  • Effectively lead teams to achieve departmental goals on a daily, weekly, seasonal, and long-term basis. Teams will include equipment operators, heavy equipment operators, HEO leads, Crane operators and others.

  • Coordinate with other Foremen within Fleet Operations to ensure department-wide goals and daily operations are met. Ensure department wide resources are used efficiently in a resource and equipment limited environment.

  • Ensure safe and efficient use of all equipment assets at McMurdo Station and its surrounding areas.

  • Work with the Fleet Operations Supervisor(s) and other Fleet Operations Foremen to establish daily, weekly, and seasonal schedules that consider over-all priorities, current equipment availability, and current staffing levels and abilities. Modify and adjust these schedules as needed to stay current and accurate.

  • Ensure all team members are performing daily equipment checks. Makes sure all safety and maintenance issues are reported to the Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) daily via proper reporting methods and channels. (Ex: Submit Work Orders to VMF)

  • Ensure all team members read and understand the equipment operator manual prior to operating equipment.

  • Conduct equipment familiarization with team members to gauge proficiency levels prior to any equipment operation.

  • Provide daily written reports summarizing work completed, issues encountered, lessons learned and equipment status. Complete effective pass downs of information from shift to shift. Keep Management informed of current tasking status.

  • Safely and proficiently operate and/or over-see the operation of light and heavy equipment such as trucks bulldozers, articulating loaders, excavators, graders, backhoes, fork-lifts, snow blasts, tracked agricultural tractors, trenchers, rock drills, Pistenbullys, dump-trucks, snow moving and grooming equipment, cranes and more.

  • Performs physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of tall vehicles and heavy equipment, crawling as needed, working outdoors in extreme cold, and walking long distances daily.

  • Snow shoveling, ice-chipping, and other forms of manual labor required.

  • Complete daily work requests and assignments in a safe and timely manner.

  • Attend meetings as needed to gain knowledge from and ensure coordination with all other departments in support of ASC operations.

  • Ensure all team members properly complete timecard and Maximo (work-order, timesheet, project and equipment hours, etc.) on a daily basis.

  • Completes pre-season and end-of-season team member performance evaluations in accordance with established HR procedures.

  • Ensures team members report equipment hours within 25 hours of PM due or more frequently as needed.

  • Ensures all spills are properly reported and mitigated per existing SOP’s.

  • Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy.

  • Trains subordinate employees on performance, documentation and activities that affect the achievement Operations Division metrics.

  • Provide timely and accurate data related to all metrics.

  • Complies with and ensures all team members understand and comply with ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance goals and requirements.

  • Reports and documents incidents in a timely manner.

  • Maintains self-control and represents ASC-Amentum to the highest standards during on and off hours. Sets a positive example for others to follow.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Five years of experience as a heavy equipment operator (such as those outlined above).

  • At least six months of prior supervisory/leadership experience

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office

  • General knowledge and understanding of project schedules

  • Prior project management experience

  • Prior cold-climate equipment operations experience

  • Prior experience working in austere environments

  • Ability to thrive in resource limited environments

  • Basic hydraulic and mechanical understanding

  • Class A CDL

  • Snow grooming, moving experience

  • A clear understanding of grade and drainage

  • Rigging certifications

  • General knowledge and understanding of project schedules and planning

Physical and/or Other Requirements :

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods

  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica

  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer

  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF

  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.

  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.

  • Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
