The Oracle Local Government Global Industry Unit (LGGIU) is an industry-based organization currently designing, developing and delivering a suite of SaaS applications for local government markets. We serve municipal finance leaders, city managers, and public safety leaders as well as the business analysts, accountants, police officers, firefighters and public safety personnel keeping our cities safe & well-managed. We are growing fast, still at an early stage, and working on ambitious new initiatives.

Who You Are:

As a Principal Technical Writer for the Local Government GIU, you will play a critical role in authoring, revising, and publishing customer-facing documentation related to system administration, product features & functionality, standard methodologies, software releases & updates, quick resource guides and other assets that are used by our internal teams in delivering high-quality service to our customers.

As a team member, you must not only follow standard methodologies, standards, and procedures employed by our team, but feel comfortable contributing to them as well. Exceptional writing, copyediting and communication skills are required.

As a Senior/Principal Technical Writer, you will be working alongside the Engineering & Product teams rapidly delivering feature improvements, as well as the Implementation & Training teams delivering these improvements to our customers. An interest in SaaS enablement, cloud services, copyediting, publishing, and Agile workflows is desirable.

What you will do:

As a member of the technical writing division, you will organize and prepare information for publication and develop publication concepts for the best communication of subject matter. Review technical information prepared by other staff members for clarity and content. Take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures.

  • Creates, develops, plans, writes, and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia, or web-based publications.

  • Contributes to the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets.

  • As a member of the technical writing team, you will design, create and deliver whole product documentation sets and/or related courseware.

  • Edit, organize, and direct the work activities of other technical writers and staff.

  • Plan the format, arrange the layout of publications, and edit work for conformance to publication standards and specifications.

  • Collaborate with engineering-, product-, implementation- and training-focused contributors across the org to align process, delivery and maintenance of our documentation.

  • Work with developers & product leads to capture core feature details and user functionality considerations

  • Work with leadership to refine our processes and approaches.

What you’ve done:

  • Minimum 4-6+ years of technical writing experience is required. 4 years of experience working with the following:

  • Oxygen / XML authoring tools, Jarvis DocBuilder, Adobe FrameMaker

  • Knowledge and content management systems (Confluence preferred)

  • Issue tracking and collaboration (Jira and Confluence)

  • Product/Service ownership or Project Management experience a plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with individuals across the organization.

  • A systems thinker, able to move fluidly between high-level abstract thinking and detail-oriented implementation; open minded to new ideas, approaches, and possesses the technical ability to implement ideas.

  • Experience working with Agile development frameworks.

  • A self-starter that is naturally inquisitive, requiring only small pieces to the puzzle, across many technologies new and legacy
