Along with business growth, Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) is now poised to extend roles into Singapore and looking for a Principal Research Manager in Foundation Model innovations (LLM, vision, multi-modality, etc.), Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning Foundation, Embodied AI and Robotics, Industrial AI application, etc. This is an exceptional opportunity to drive an ambitious research agenda while collaborating with diverse teams to push for novel applications of those research areas.

Responsibilities

  • As a leading and accomplished expert in a broad research area (e.g., Foundation Model innovations, Industrial AI application and etc.), has a comprehensive understanding of the relevant literature, research methods, and business and academic context.

  • Defines and articulates a clear long-term research vision that is in line with MSRA strategic focus.

  • Leads the exploration and development of innovative AI solutions tailored specifically for industrial transformation, using expertise in AI technologies such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, and natural language processing to solve critical problems faced by various industrial sectors.

  • Establishes thought leadership in the domain of industrial AI by actively collaborating with business teams and external partners to identify emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities within various industrial sectors. By using insights from these collaborations, the candidate guides the research direction towards addressing industry-specific needs and challenges, ultimately positioning Microsoft Research as a leading authority in industrial AI innovation.

  • As a local representative, fosters cooperative relationships with local governments, academic communities, industry partners and business groups within Microsoft to establish MSRA presence locally and support future growth

  • Creates synergy among research groups in multiple locations to enable collaboration and creativity

  • As a people manager, hires and retains top talents. Deliveries success through empowerment and accountability

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in relevant field AND 5+ years related research experience.

  • Recognized within academia as a leader in the research domain.

  • Passion to see research have real-world impact on boosting industrial transformation and addressing societal challenges

  • Strong influencing and communication skills to engage with various stakeholders both externally and internally

  • Has experience in people-management

  • Experience in publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor.

  • Experience of participating in a top conference in relevant research domain.
