Associate Accountant Location: Des Moines, IA/Hybrid Duration: 6-7 months with possible extension Description: Degree Type Major/Certification Bachelor's Level Degree Bachelor’s Degree Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience required CPA or other applicable certifications preferred. For positions with Client Global Investors, you will be required to comply with a Code of Ethics which covers a number of obligations related to personal and business conduct as well as personal trading activities for you and members of your household. These same requirements may also apply to other positions across the organization. Responsibilities: Conducting month-end close activities. Performing basic accounting analysis and reporting of financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or other regulatory guidance. Calculating routine journal entries and providing accurate and timely financial submissions. Reconciling accounts and preparing financial data for inclusion in the financial control process. Reporting to external and internal stakeholders. Please describe the project work, and what do day-to-day responsibilities look like: This role prepares, posts and validates journal entries, prepares reconciliations, and prepares statutory memos. Project work includes process improvements such as automating, cleaning up files, and documenting accounting processes. What technologies or systems will this contingent worker be utilizing: Excel, corporate accounting tools, such as Peoplesoft ledger, Dodeca and Smartview/Essbase, Blackline, possibly SAS and PowerBI. If a candidate does not have all the technologies listed, would there be technologies you would consider “similar” and/or “transferable” for this position: Other accounting software experience would be helpful if Peoplesoft isn’t the ledger used, or other accounting reporting tools have been used. What is the size and culture of the team: This role and two others report to one leader. That leader reports to me as the financial reporting tea leader. The full team is 8 people. The team is collaborative. Each person has their own list of tasks for each month and quarter end, but can reach out to others for help. This open contract position is the most junior level role on the team. Most of the first 2 weeks or so of a non-quarter end month is spent closing the prior month books. Quarter end closing lasts approximately a week longer. Will this person interact with any other Client departments: Yes, life insurance and group insurance actuarial teams, Corporate accounting, insurance administrative teams to gather data needed for journal entries and reconciliations.
