Position Summary:

The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

The Associate Dean of Students works closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students ( AVC & DOS ) to support the missions, programs, and operations of Greek Student Engagement and Development, InterCultural Affairs, and Office of Student Conduct. The Associate Dean of Students assists the AVC & DOS with the aforementioned departments to strengthen our ability to respond to the needs of our students.

The Associate Dean of Students responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the Dean of Students and serving as designee for the Dean of Students in completing unit, divisional, and departmental projects, strategic planning, assessment, and implementing new initiatives.

  • Assisting with unit, divisional and institutional initiatives that support strategic initiatives and institutional values

  • Collaborating with TIX Coordinator and DOS on Title IX intakes and processes.

  • Manages bystander intervention and Red Zone programing in collaboration with campus partners.

  • Providing case management support to students, as assigned, and supporting the work of the Student Concern Response Team.

  • Assisting with emergency and crisis responses as required and/or assigned.

  • Serving on university committees as needed.

  • Facilitating research projects as assigned in support of data-driven student success projects and initiatives.

The Associate Dean of Students convenes the AVC & DOS unit on a regular basis to enhance communication, collaboration, and training and to solve problems or concerns as they arise. The Associate Dean of Students will also serve on an on-call rotation, serve in the absence of the Dean of Students as necessary, and complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Student Affairs, counseling, or a related field, or comparable education and experience.

  • Experience working with high level student conduct, crisis, and/or Title IX incidents.

  • Demonstrated programming and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated record of success in leading and managing projects.

  • Superior oral, written, and interpersonal, communication skills, including writing and editing of high-level reports.

  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships within a university setting.

  • Candidates should have at least 4-5 years of progressive administrative experience in higher education.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience serving in an associate director or director-level position. Demonstrated high level problem-solving skills. Ability to efficiently manage processes related to student services. Ability to work within a diverse setting with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders. Demonstrated supervisory skills, including advising, goal setting, assessment, and providing of feedback. Demonstrated solid technical skills and an ability to learn new technology resources.
