Effectual Inc DevOps Engineer - US Government in United States

Position Summary

The primary role of the DevOps Engineer will be provide operational support to a government customer whose applications are deployed in AWS GovCloud. This includes deployment, configuration and maintenance activities for AWS infrastructure and services deployed across many AWS accounts in 2 regions. Another important aspect of this role is the identification of opportunities to improve and automate processes (security, efficiency, cost, performance, and reliability/survivability). You will report to the Director of Technical Program Management.

Responsibilities

  • Providing daily operational support for cloud-based infrastructure and services (AWS GovCloud)

  • Design, deploy, configure, patch, troubleshoot AWS infrastructure and services manually via the AWS management console and CLI, and using Terraform infrastructure-as-code

  • You will produce diagrams showing advanced configuration details of systems deployed in the cloud environment

  • You will write and update knowledge articles and standard operating procedure documents detailing the operations and procedures for the systems deployed in AWS

  • Key AWS services – advanced hands-on expertise with the following:

o EC2

o RDS (do not have to be an advanced DBA)

o ELB/NLB

o VPC

o IAM

o Config

o CloudTrail

o CloudWatch

o Kinesis (Data firehose, subscription filters, shipping CloudWatch logs to Splunk)

o S3

o Route 53

o Managed Directory Service (AWS AD)

o VPN

o DirectConnect

o File sharing (EFS / FSx for OnTap

MUST HAVE hands-on advanced experience in a production setting:

o Terraform

o Gitlab

o Linux and Windows operating systems

Support the AWS infrastructure for operation of multiple SAAS platforms in this AWS GovCloud environment (hands-on experience with any of these is a plus – nice to have):

o Centrify (SSO/MFA) – soon this may become Okta

o Datadog (app performance monitoring)

o Splunk (log analysis)

o Trellix (endpoint protection)

o ServiceNow (SIEM)

o Palo Alto

o MS Exchange

o MS SharePoint

Bonus points:

o Python scripting in a cloud setting

o Lambda

o Kubernetes / Docker / Containers in general

o US Government Experience

  • Regulatory compliance

  • NIST 800-53

  • FISMA Moderate

  • Authority to Operate

    Qualifications

  • US Citizen

  • 100% Remote within the Continental United States

  • Most be able to pass a Government Public Trust Clearance

  • AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect Associate, Developer Associate, SysOps Administrator Associate, and/or DevOps Engineer Professional, Solutions Architect Professional)

  • 5years of direct Cloud DevOps experience

  • 5years of Infrastructure as Code experience - Terraform

  • Familiarity not just with the AWS console, but with the AWS CLI, APIs and SDKs

Location: Remote

Salary Range: Salary Range for this position: $110,000-$160,000

Travel Requirements

The travel requirements for this position may vary depending on our needs. You should be prepared to travel domestically as necessary. Travel frequency and duration will be communicated in advance, allowing for proper planning and coordination. Typically, travel may include attending conferences, client meetings, training sessions, and other business-related events. The ability to travel is essential for fulfilling the responsibilities of this role and supporting our organization's goals and objectives.
