Western Carolina University Director of Food and Beverage Services - #003575 in United States

Position Summary:

The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

This position serves as the Director of Food and Beverage Services and is supervised by the Associate Vice Chancellor ( AVC ) of Auxiliary Enterprises. This position collaborates with the AVC to manage the University’s third-party contracted food service and beverage providers.

Primary Responsibilities include:

• Developing and executing initiatives to meet customers’ needs and expectations

• Ensuring the operational and financial performance of the relevant contracts

• Ensuring that third-party partners meet their safety and sanitation commitments

• Developing, reviewing, and approving operating hours and change requests with the assistance of associated providers

• Considers and manages the Policy exception process

• Managing associated facilities and assets, ensuring compliance with internal Memorandums of Understanding, and partnering with WCU Facilities Management to ensure compliance with University and North Carolina Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines

• Managing capital and small projects, striving to deliver projects on-time and on-budget

• Planning for and facilitating the repair and replacement of equipment

• Maintaining relationships with students and student groups, including the Student Government Association ( SGA ) and Dining Service Advisory Board ( DSAB ), to share information and to collect/assess student feedback

• Update contracts as needed with associated partners. Includes yearly rate negotiations, proposals, service considerations, and managing the affiliated University processes

• Develop and execute Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for dining and beverage service as needed

• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and associated documentation as needed

• Monitor KPIs, and use them as a tool to make data-driven decisions

Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the management of food and beverage service at the University.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employment sponsorship.

• Qualified candidates will hold a Baccalaureate degree in an appropriate area of specialization

• 10+ years of Food Service management experience in a Higher Education environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• An MBA or Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization

• Serve Safe Certified

• In-depth knowledge of contracted food service providers

• In-depth knowledge of Health Code standards

• Experience in the design and operation of food service facilities

• Experience with food service personnel, menu design, waste management, and food service best practices

• Experience with contract negotiation and contract implementation

• Experience managing retail brands and partnerships
