Xylem is looking for a Global Category Technician to support in the global management and optimization of utility categoriesincluding electricity, natural gas, water, waste management and renewable energy sourcing.
Job Summary:
This role is responsible for executing technical activities related to utility procurement, supplier management, data analysis, and performance monitoring and requires extensive market knowledge, strategic sourcing skills, and the ability to work across multiple regions.
Key Responsibilities:
Utility Procurement Support:
Assist in the procurement process for utilities by supporting the Global Category Manager with data evaluation, supplier evaluation and market analysis.
Support the development of requests for proposals (RFPs) and contracts for utility services.
Technical Support
Provide technical support in troubleshooting utility-related issues and resolve problems related to energy supply, equipment, or service interruptions.
Liaise with utility providers and internal teams to address technical problems and ensure continuity of utility services.
Supplier Relationship Management:
Assist with the relationships with key utility suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing, service quality, and innovation.
Monitor utility supplier performance, ensuring service agreements are met and resolving any issues related to service delivery.
Maintain a database of utility suppliers, contracts, and performance metrics.
Assist with the execution and management of contracts, including tracking supplier performance, renewals, and compliance with agreed terms.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with facilities management, operations, and finance teams to align utility procurement strategies with business requirements.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and smooth execution of utility-related initiatives.
Sustainability & Efficiency Initiatives:
Support global sustainability efforts by gathering invoices and contributing to energy efficiency projects.
Assist in the identification of opportunities for renewable energy sourcing and other green energy solutions.
Work with the sustainability&EHS team to support carbon reduction targets and energy efficiency goals.
Risk Management:
Identify and manage risks associated with utility sourcing, including supply chain disruptions, price volatility, and regulatory changes.
Develop contingency plans to mitigate potential supply or price risks across regions.
Cost Optimization and Spend Management:
Support on spend analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and drive continuous improvement in total cost of ownership.
Track key performance metrics related to utility spend, sustainability impact, and supplier performance.
Assist with reporting on utility budgets, forecasts, and cost savings targets, presenting data-driven insights to management.
Data Management and Reporting:
Assist with the accurate and timely data collection.
Maintain and update utility data records, including energy usage, billing details, and service reports.
Support the implementation of energy-saving initiatives by providing technical insights and recommendations.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field. Master’s degree or previous experience in international energy markets is preferred.
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in utilities management, procurement, or technical support roles, preferably in a global or large-scale operational environment.
Familiarity with utility billing systems, energy management software, and environmental regulations.
Practical experience in energy efficiency or sustainability projects is an asset.
Skills:
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
Knowledge of utility markets, regulations, and sustainability trends.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, global environment and manage multiple priorities.
Strong understanding of utility systems and energy management principles (electricity, gas, water, etc.).
Proficiency in data analysis, reporting tools, and spreadsheet applications (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
Understanding of energy efficiency technologies and green energy solutions.
Passionate about sustainability and innovation in utility management.
