Join TriMet for a tremendous opportunity to lead an analytical team, planning and scheduling public transit focused preventative maintenance.

The Manager of Maintenance Control is responsible for management and coordination of work required to support the maintenance division with identifying, prioritizing, planning, scheduling and documenting the completion of preventative maintenance, repair and overhaul for District assets and related component parts. Emphasis of the work is on analyzing repair work to be performed, conferring with technical supervisors and maintenance on workloads and technical repair matters, selecting repair work to be performed, preparing workload schedules, and monitoring work progress. Considerable independent judgment is exercised in the analysis and scheduling of transit repair activities and in the application of specialized transit technical knowledge to vehicle repair problems. Supervision is exercised over a technical staff who assist with job estimates, work plans and work completion reports. Plan maintenance control tools, training, procedures and practices to ensure consistency with organization's overall objectives in compliance with professional standards, State and federal regulatory requirements and laws.

This role requires being in office four (4) days per week.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers’ experiences and of TriMet’s product and service offerings.

Essential Functions

  • Manage, plan, direct, coordinate and review the work of assigned staff, including hiring, performance management, coaching and training.

  • Participate in the department budget process as a key stakeholder. Plan and manage Maintenance Controls workgroup budget.

  • Develop and analyze uniform workloads, performance measurements, and job standards for the maintenance division. Develop statistical analysis including probability theories and forecasting techniques to evaluate failure and ensure reliability of equipment and processes.

  • Develop and monitor Preventive Maintenance Inspection Schedules for all vehicles and subsystems.

  • Review documentation for specific categories of repairs; oversees the data entry and retrieval activities of all historical information.

  • Produce and distribute various performance reports and contributes with the preparation of the operating and capital budgets and monitoring budget adherence.

  • Coordinate with materials control group and Warranty department for the effective tracking of warrantable components. Evaluate validity of failed parts with existing warranties and validates and authorizes expenditures of unwarrantable repairs.

  • Develop life cycles for asset tracked components that are used in the proactive identification of substandard component quality to ultimately assist in the procurement of the highest quality replacement parts and execute efficient maintenance practices thus lowering the overall cost of maintenance.

  • Prepare and monitor workload schedules including projections on available labor hours for major repairs. Review compliance with projected target dates. Notify maintenance management of compliance issues and revises schedules as required.

  • Monitor work progress by comparing completion rates with schedules. Advise superiors of jobs requiring expediting.

  • Perform advanced statistical and trend analysis of equipment and components. Implement predictive failure management process and reliability management.

  • Schedule and track all equipment calibrations in addition to all equipment that has been contracted out for repair. Provide timely credible reports to include: inventory control, failure management reporting and performance reporting.

  • Coordinate, develop packages, and monitor campaign documentations for any OEM modifications or Safety Critical correction via Service Bulletins.

  • Manage divisions Standard Operating Procedures control approval and revision process.

Position Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Transportation/logistics Planning, Statistics, Systems Analysis, Public/Business Administration or Planning being preferred.

A minimum of six (6) years total credited experience.*

Four (4) years of experience in fleet equipment and maintenance programs to include data collection and statistical analysis are required.

One (1) year of experience managing in a combined union and non-union organization is preferred.

Two (2) years of lead or project management or staff management team lead, project management, contract management, or staff management experience coordinating and/or managing plans, schedules and/or deliverables.

PMP - Project Mgmt Professional, Project Management Professional Certificate is preferred upon hire.

Or any equivalent combination of training or experience.

*The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Salary Range

Minimum: $114,749.00

Maximum: $172,125.00

Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered.
