Indian Health Service Nurse (OB/GYN) in United States

Summary This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose is to perform a variety of responsible nursing care procedures requiring professional nursing knowledge to evaluate nursing needs, conditions, treatment and education of Obstetric/Gynecology, Labor & Delivery patients. Responsibilities Perform professional nursing duties in the obstetrical ward for patients in the labor and delivery areas, post-partum to discharge including newborns from birth to discharge Develop patient care plans or participates in patient care planning for safe care of patients during antepartum, labor and delivery, post-partum, obstetrical triage and for the newborn nursery Observes and assesses patient's condition, collects and interprets data from patient history and physical assessment and decides appropriate nursing action to be taken When physician or midwife is not present, initiates pre-planned emergency nursing measures to ensure the well-being of mother and baby, i.e., sets up operating room, serves as circulating or scrub nurse, newborn resuscitation and assessment, maintain professional caring attitude Administers therapeutic measures, i.e., medication administration, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions and treatment etc. Consults with attending physicians, midwives and other staff members to determine and evaluate health care needs Participates and actively supports in development of standards of care and quality assurance measures. Teaches family, patient on newborn care with social, emotional, education, cultural, spiritual and physical support. Maintain certifications in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neo-Natal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Fetal Monitoring. *Note: This is an Open Continuous announcement; applicants will be referred when vacancies occur. Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-07: In addition to the above Basic Requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a bachelor's degree in nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) provision. Possession of a bachelor's degree in nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level); Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides professional obstetrical nursing care to patients, reviewing medical records and administering medication in accordance with instructions, and assisting physicians with procedures; developed or participated in developing nursing care plans to meet needs of assigned patients within accepted obstetrical nursing care procedures. Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two (2) full years of professional nursing experience. Your resume must demonstrate at least two (2) years of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides professional obstetrical nursing care to patients, reviewing medical records and administering medication in accordance with instructions, and assisting physicians with procedures; developed or participated in developing nursing care plans to meet needs of assigned patients within accepted obstetrical nursing care procedures. Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program. GS-09: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of professional experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provided professional obstetrical nursing care within principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of obstetrical patients; developed individualized nursing care plan during labor, and delivery through post-partum to discharge; interpreted progress of labor, monitored fetal, recognizes, identifies serious situation and immediately initiates proper action; recognize adverse signs of symptom and react promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of appropriate measures of life saving procedures; applying knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effect and complications of their use; provide counseling, guidance and health instruction to patient (mother and newborn) from admittance to discharge/birth to discharge; actively supports and participates in quality assurance activities. GS-10: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet the following requirements: At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of professional experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provided professional obstetrical nursing care within principles, practices and procedures to patient whose conditions warranted specialized care; i.e., preclampsia, diabetes, fetal stress, prolonged ROM, amnioinfusion, sepsis, hemorrhage, abruption, placenta previa, routine mother/baby care, antepartum/gynecological surgical care; developed individualized nursing care plan during labor, and delivery through post-partum to discharge; consulted with attending physician, midwives and other staff members to take appropriate nursing action; participated in the development, updating and evaluation of standard of care and audit procedures. *Note: This is an Open Continuous Announcement; applicants will be referred when vacancies occur.
