What we're looking for:

Citrix Hypervisor is a market leading virtualisation platform chosen by global companies to power the next generation of desktop virtualisation and cloud services. You’re an ambitious operations engineer with experience working on server virtualization and hardware management.

You’ll be part of the Hybrid Cloud Platforms (HCP) group who maintain and enhance the most extensive and powerful automation and test systems in Citrix.

You’ll be helping to develop and manage the infrastructure that underpins the whole of the Citrix development organisation with a multimillion dollar hardware budget. The work you will be doing very directly contributes to the overall success of the group and what we deliver to customers.

What you’ll be doing as an Operations Engineer at Citrix:

The infrastructure you will be working on includes a first-class test automation system that executes in a globally distributed lab containing 1000+ servers (including pre-release offerings from all of the industry leading players), top-end enterprise storage and networking – running many thousands of advanced cluster and distributed tests daily and weekly.

In the role, you will:

  • Provide system administration of production services

  • Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues that can occur in a globally distributed lab

  • Assist with acquisition and commissioning of new hardware into the automation framework to support development of features and increase test capacity

  • Work together with other teams in Citrix to ensure the lab infrastructure remains secure

  • Liaise with colleagues in remote Datacentres to address physical hardware / maintenance work

  • Handle the process for decommissioning hardware

  • Liaise with technology specialists, managers and other departments on technical matters

  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation for all work undertaken

  • Identify and implement automated solutions to reduce the cost of maintaining the lab.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience in the system administration of production services, including experience in ensuring secure configurations, high availability, backup/disaster recovery processes

  • Relevant numerate degree or equivalent practical experience

  • Experience with network configuration (IP, VLANs, switch configuration)

  • Experience configuring enterprise storage (NFS, SMB, ISCSI, Fibre Channel and Multipath)

  • Proficient with the Linux operating system including command-line knowledge

  • Remote diagnosis and fixing of hardware configurations and issues

  • Occasional travel to the datacentre in London will be required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Server virtualization and administration

  • Physical hardware management and installation of new equipment and parts

Desirable areas of experience:

  • Cisco Networking Qualifications (CCNA or similar)

  • Configuring switches from multiple Manufacturers (Cisco, Dell, HP)

  • Configuring enterprise storage from multiple Manufacturers (QNAP, NetApp, Dell)

  • Commissioning Servers from Dell, Cisco, HPE, Fujitsu, Lenovo and others

  • Experience commissioning Blade Chassis and Standalone Servers

  • Experience working in a globally distributed team

  • Windows, particularly use of shell or other scripting

  • Python scripting language

  • Citrix Hypervisor Administration

  • Configuration management – puppet

  • Centralised Management Tools – Dell OME, Supermicro SSM, Lenovo XClarity Controller

  • Programmatic out-of-band management tools – sum, racadm, onecli

  • Experience in Asset / IPAM Management – dcTrack, Solarwinds

  • Experience with administering container based technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes
