Who We Are

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas A&M University researches the physical processes that influence and determine our climate as well as providing insight into how and why the climate changes. This is an enormous topic and covers spatial scales from atmospheric chemistry, aerosol particles, air pollution, cloud particles, with radii of microns, to large-scale atmospheric waves, with length scales of thousands of kilometers. Topics studied in the department include the physics of convection, climate variability, feedback physics, climate sensitivity, climate extremes, and regional modeling. Variability and predictability of climate on seasonal to millennial timescales, coupled ocean-atmosphere interaction, large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere and the oceans.

What We Want

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences is seeking a candidate with a Ph.D in air quality (AQ) related research for a one year project. The Air Quality Data Analyst will be responsible for processing, analyzing and interpreting air quality data, including satellite data of atmospheric composition, and auxiliary data from various state and federal sources. They will prepare scientific write-ups and work with project collaborators in Colorado. What You Need to Know

Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • PhD in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, or related field

    Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience with, or familiarity with air quality issues

  • Prior Experience with environmental data analysis and interpretation, including satellite data of atmospheric composition, especially as related to air quality and public health

  • Experience with using R software and analytical packages to analyze environmental data

  • Familiarity with air quality impacts from the oil and gas industry

  • Experience and/or willingness to assist with air quality data acquisition and processing

  • Experience with analyzing large data sets, and associated software skills

  • Team player, able to work with faculty as well as undergraduate students

    Responsibilities:

  • Data Analyses: Downloads, processes, analyzes, and interprets air quality data, including satellite data of atmospheric composition, and auxiliary data from various state and federal sources. Prepares data graphics and scientific write-ups for sponsor reports and for outreach to scientific and lay audiences. Travels to conferences to present results. Drafts manuscripts for publication.​

  • Coordination: Coordinates data analyses and interpretation with project collaborators in Colorado. Travels to NCAR in Colorado as needed for satellite data analysis and interpretation and performs o ther duties as assigned. ​
