GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The candidate selected for this position will provide consultative services to patients regarding treatment or other issues that may arise during their treatment at the Wyoming State Hospital.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Educates individuals, staff, guardians, and community members.

  • Implements policy and procedures for protection of victim rights.

  • Develops and maintains appropriate reporting systems.

  • Enters and maintains pertinent data and statistical records on patients served and services provided into designated computer systems/software programs.

  • Responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing training of hospital staff in patient rights education.

  • Advocates for rights and quality of care of individuals.

  • Develops and maintains appropriate reporting systems.

  • Is a part of conducting internal investigations of abuse/neglect/rights violations as appropriate.

  • Attends meetings with teams of individuals served as needed to protect rights and improve the quality of life.

  • Participates with/ advises and provides direction regarding rights issues in all areas of the agency's business.

  • Reviews practices to maintain compliance with state and federal laws.

  • Participates in development of policies, procedures, rules and law making.

  • Provides a Patient's Right's group to patients in the State Hospital.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of applicable laws including adult protection, licensure and agency statutes.

  • Knowledge of the specialized needs of individuals with disabilities including people with intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and mental illness.

  • Knowledge of client Rights and advocacy issues.

  • Knowledge of court procedures, crisis investigation, and testimony in court.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Social Services)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Victim Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Client Services Advocate

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Victim Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Client Services Advocate

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position may require a background information check INCLUDING the taking of fingerprints, which will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, The Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for every successful applicant.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt

  • Employees of this facility will be expected to follow all rules and requirements established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding COVID-19.

  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be completed in any position if reasonable suspicion exists
