Job Description

The Transit Bus Driver is responsible of driving shuttle buses while providing safe transportation. This a full-time, 12-month position.

This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Drives Prairie View A & M University transit routes as scheduled. Operates assigned equipment in a safe manner and in adherence to all University and transit policies as well as local, state, and federal laws.

  • Assists managers and supervisors in the training of new drivers by teaching and demonstrating driving techniques, evaluating and providing feedback to the drivers, and providing follow-up or re-training as necessary.

  • Reports any potentially hazardous vehicle maintenance or safety issues immediately to the supervisor.

  • Conducts a proper "pre" and "post" trip vehicle inspection and note any discrepancies at the beginning and end of every shift.

  • Properly fuels all assigned vehicles being returned to Transit unless otherwise instructed.

  • Maintains and cleans equipment assigned during shift.

  • Details rental vehicles, buses or carts.

  • Makes pick-ups via car, van, or cart, or helping out as office support with the Administrative staff or within the Maintenance shop.

  • Continue to work various special events. (ie graduation, sporting events, etc.)

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Two years of work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to operate several types of buses and vans to the extent of maneuvering safely through congested traffic conditions, adverse weather and road conditions.

  • Exhibit a high degree of mental concentration and independent judgment.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with computers.

  • Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • Must have a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Class A CDL with a passenger endorsement.
