Description

BridgeValley Community and Technical College invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Division of Workforce Development and Technical Education to support delivery of the Utility Line Services one-year certificate (CAS) degree program in Technical Studies. This position will be primarily located at the Montgomery location but may require travel to the South Charleston campus.

Summary:

Full-time, non-tenure-track faculty, ten-month (10 month) position. Benefits eligible. Salary offer will be commensurate with experience and education.

Examples of Duties

  • Provide instruction for utility lineman courses, including evaluation of student assignments, labs, consultation, and additional instruction outside of lecture as necessary, and other efforts related to teaching.

  • Instruct program curriculum material and develop course lesson plans to ensure expected course outcomes are met. These may include construction of power lines, set new utility poles, operation of utility trucks to include the bucket and digger derrick trucks, safety, pole top rescue, identification of construction materials, and other topics as needed.

  • Utilize different methods and mediums in delivering course material.

  • Support program, division, and institutional operational objectives, especially the implementation and maintenance of the program assessment or accreditation process.

  • Participate in recruiting efforts for the Division of Workforce Development and Technical Education including but not limited to giving tours to prospective students, as well as visiting high school and career technical centers.

  • Provide academic advising services to students to aid students in achieving their educational goals.

  • Aid in student retention by giving timely feedback to students and the college concerning academics, behavior, attendance, etc. and mentoring students as required to aid in the development and growth of the student as they progress through the program.

  • Take an active role in job placement for students as well as Learn and Earn grant opportunities with industry.

  • Build and maintain contacts, connections, and relationships throughout the utility line services industry as well as high school technical program instructors, and/or dual credit.

  • Keep abreast of the latest industry trends and needs of the program and participate in advisory committee activities.

  • Maintain expertise in subject area and recommend improvements, with possible training on specific software and equipment as required by the program.

  • Actively contribute to program, division, and institutional needs which may include, but not be limited to, class schedule preparation, budget development, advising, committee participation, accreditation, articulation, and faculty governance.

  • Promote safety and provide a professional environment for students, manage equipment, tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, & Experience

  • 10 years industrial experience + relevant industrial certifications -or-

  • 5 years industrial experience + 3 years infield industrial trainer experience -or-

  • 5 years industrial experience + relevant vocational / technical program

  • -or-

  • Journeyman industrial credential and 3 years relevant industrial experience -or-

  • AS in appropriate field + 3 years relevant industrial experience

  • BS degree with AS/AAS in infield degree -and-Appropriate industrial certifications for field -and-

  • 3 years industrial experience

  • Must possess and demonstrate a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
