Summary About the Position: Serves as a Victim Advocate (SHARP) for Army Brigades and works under the supervision of the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) in the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response & Prevention (SHARP) program, who provides guidance on program policies and objectives. Providing comprehensive assistance and liaison to victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment. Provides advocacy and educational services to service members, family members, and DoD civilians. Responsibilities Conducts assessments with clients to determine required needs and evaluates safety and levels of risk. Conducts professional level and administrative educational and interactive training workshops/seminars to victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault, community agencies, units and leaders. Ensures victims of sexual assault receive all needed guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures, and that victims understand the processes involved on cases. Maintains cooperative working relationships with military, state, and local action agencies to include attorneys, Rape Crisis Centers, Army Substance Abuse Program, and Chaplains. Participates in Program media events. Conducts community needs assessments to determine program effectiveness. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Victim Advocate (SHARP): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as counseling, social work, psychology, criminal justice, etc. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing professional advocacy services to victims or survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment; conducting assessments with clients to evaluate needs and risks; determining the need for professional intervention to refer clients to appropriate services; and conducting training and/or seminars on sexual assault and sexual harassment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: counseling, social work, psychology, criminal justice, etc. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Case Management Information Management Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
