About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].

This position is located in Wadsworth, Ohio.

Candidates scheduled for an interview will be required to deliver a 15-minute presentation on a work- related topic. This topic is chosen and developed by the candidate ahead of time and presented during the interview.

Transmission System Operations Instructors design, develop, deliver, and supports training for experienced and new Transmission System Operators. They are responsible for the research, development, coordination, and revision of training. Employees in this job lead by example, educate direct others and possess the job skills and knowledge to exercise independent judgment on training projects and assignments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Acts as a resource for the development and implementation of training programs ensuring adherence to Company, safety, and department policies and procedures.

  • Attends training seminars and regularly completes updated training for additional knowledge and skills related to presentation of materials in the adult learning environment, reads professional journals to upgrade knowledge of developments in the area of training.

  • Skill to evaluate the training materials, student evaluations, memos, and reports written by associates and instructors for content, accuracy, and clarity.

  • Conducts needs analysis.

  • Commitment to customer service is demonstrated in classroom and non-classroom environments. Identifies customers’ needs and expectations; provides resolutions.

  • Leads design, development, and implementation activities of effective training materials.

  • Develops and administers new policies and practices.

  • Maintains awareness of changes in policies and procedures and incorporates them into the curriculum.

  • Designs and develops plans for courses including training aids for course presentation.

  • Conducts training programs and assists with direct observations and reviews of student evaluations.

  • Judgment skills to evaluate, identify, and communicate strengths and weaknesses of associates and instructors.

  • Collects accurate information, organizes materials, analyzes relationships among data, and reports conclusions within established deadlines.

  • Collects and analyzes feedback from supervision and students and makes recommendations to improve training.

  • Assists with coordinating activities related to training associates and instructors on proper operating and care of hardware, audio and visual equipment. Stays abreast of current technology.

  • Ability to remain current in computer knowledge applicable to the training section.

  • Communicates training and classroom activities, discussions with supervision, and outcomes of meetings attended.

  • Ability to accept and promote change.

  • Ability to foster an environment among associates and instructors that recognizes success and positively promotes improvement.

  • Verbal communication skills to convey ideas, policies, and procedures in a clear, concise and understandable manner.

  • Follows written and oral instructions, knowing when to ask for further clarification.

  • Provides clarification when necessary.

  • Functional arithmetic knowledge applicable to the training section.

  • Self-motivated to independently follow assignments through to completion and act as a role model for associates and instructors.

Qualifications include:

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Education or related discipline preferred or the equivalent gained through previous work experience.

  • In lieu of a degree, five to seven (5-7) years of relevant work experience and/or technical knowledge.

  • Demonstrated skill and ability to perform as an Instructor and/or with degree, three to five (3-5) years relevant work experience.
