New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking an Engineer II to provide the necessary engineering expertise to identify, plan, design, coordinate, implement and manage multiple construction projects associated with natural gas distribution, transmission or regulator station facilities. Manage the project scope, schedule, budgets and subcontractors. Ensure that design and construction activities comply with all federal/state regulations and company standards, while providing the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of gas service to new and existing customers affected by projects.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare work orders on a timely and accurate basis for the development and design of satisfactory and adequate operating pressure requirements for new and existing main installations.

  • Prepare construction drawings that accurately depict proposed and completed changes in the distribution system.

  • Make effective personal inspections of potential job sites in order to develop an understanding of actual field conditions and the possible effect they may have on system design.

  • Effectively represent the Company at pre-construction meetings, maintains accurate minutes of these meetings, and promotes general safety and economic construction standards that are in the best interest of the Company.

  • Design new distribution systems to provide adequate supplies of gas to new customers, including developments and commercial accounts.

  • Effectively review construction plans for all roadway projects to determine areas of conflict, and work to minimize our Company's financial exposure.

  • Oversee the corporate transmission and distribution systems, is responsible for troubleshooting any abnormalities, and offers technical advice and assistance to the Distribution, Gas Control, and PMT Departments in providing safe, reliable, adequate, and economic service.

  • Evaluate the effects large volume commercial and industrial customers (PSI's) and large developments (Cost Out Requests) will have on the transmission and distribution system, and recommend necessary reinforcements to assure adequate system capacity and pressure.

  • Designs detailed meter sets for large volume commercial and industrial customers, which require elevated delivery pressure in a safe, yet economical manner.

  • Assists the Marketing and Distribution Departments in field inspecting customer complaints concerning meter sets and recommend solutions to resolve problems in an expeditious manner.

  • Obtain all necessary voucher checks and all applicable State, County, and Municipal permits, and prepare work order and drawings for each installation.

  • Lend technical advice to the Distribution, Field Services, Construction Departments for information not specifically addressed in the Company's Standards Manual and for non-stock items.

  • Work with Division supervision to prioritize pending rehabilitation work to ensure public safety in the most economical manner.

  • Any other duties and responsibilities determined appropriate by department management.

Position Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college is required, preferably civil or mechanical

  • 2 years of experience in public utility engineering or related field.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills.

  • Must be detail-oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS preferred.

This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.
