We are seeking an experienced Global Nonprofit Controller to join our Washington, DC-based organization. Our team plays a crucial role in supporting high-impact programs across more than nine countries, with a strong commitment to empowering these initiatives to achieve their goals. Responsibilities include processing and recording financial transactions, budgeting, and ensuring compliance. We are a nearly paperless organization, utilizing Sage Intacct and Excel as our primary tools. This position offers flexibility, with the option to work in a hybrid or remote capacity, though some travel (approximately 10%) will be required.

salary: $140,000 - $185,000 per year

Responsibilities

This position will report directly to the CFO and will be responsible for managing all accounting and auditing functions that support the mission. The Global Controller will support the high impact programs across 9 different countries and will work directly with the teams in those countries as well as with the US team. Experience with Sage Intacct is highly preferred.

This role can be hybrid or remote and there is 10% domestic and international travel required. It is highly preferred that this person live close to Washington, DC but candidates with the Global experience within a non profit, that live outside of the DC area will be considered as well.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial & Team Leadership

• Lead the Global Finance team of 6, including 3 direct reports

• With the CFO, manage cash resources and investments to ensure liquidity

• Provide support to regional finance teams and offer analysis to CFO for improvements

Policy Improvements

• Continuously evaluate finance processes for improvement

• Manage policies and handbook to ensure compliance with GAAP

• Introduce changes to optimize systems and improve effeciencies

Audit & Reporting

• Lead annual global audit, working with external auditors and regional finance teams to ensure timely completed audits

• Manage the 990 tax filing process

• Supervise the global cash management, general ledger, payroll and close functions

• Ensure compliance with donor requirements and grant agreements

• Support CFO in Financial Reporting

• Manage global payroll
