Amentum Optical Engineer in Washington, District Of Columbia

In this role you will support challenging, mission-critical projects that make a direct impact on the nation’s security and intelligence mission.
Responsibilities:
Analysis of photonic and electro-optic data, including parameter extraction, filter response, system scattering parameters, refractive index determination, material absorption determination, electro-optic tensor properties, nonlinear optic properties, Raman cross-sections, and/or Rayleigh scattering cross-sections
Publication and dissemination of photonic and electro-optic data, including refereed journal publications, scientific conferences, and sponsor reviews
Procurement of equipment and supplies for electro-optic and photonic research, including optical equipment, lasers, and software
Requirements:
Modeling and simulation of photonic components and devices, including waveguide devices, fiber-optic devices, and/or semiconductor devices
Measurement and characterization of photonic components and devices, including passive characterization of loss, reflection, scattering, spectral response, polarization dependence, and/or dispersion and birefringence, as well as active characterization of RF modulation, photodetector performance, and/or source characteristics
Prior experience in a government research laboratory environment
Minimum Education:
- PhD or equivalent degree in Physics/Optics/Photonics/Electrical Engineering
Minimum Years of Experience:
- At least 20 years of experience in physics/engineering research or similar post-PhD
