Under the direction of the Cultural Arts Director/Production Manager, the Program Assistant works on various YMCA stage productions to ensure the safety and security of the cast members and to assist director and/or production manager in their duties. The individual provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with the curriculum within the established YMCA guidelines

  • Assists with Supervision of children, studios, and all activities.

  • Engages with each student and assist with maintenance of effective control of class.

  • Ensures that all cast members are picked up from the rehearsal space by an authorized adult or ensuring that cast members are authorized to leave the rehearsal space on their own.

  • Assists in costume preparation, measuring, cutting, gluing.

  • Assists music director by running music on CD for rehearsals.

  • Assisting where needed and/or in the technical booth during tech rehearsals and performances.

  • Reports back to production manager or stage manager in a timely manner regarding any issues.

  • Attends and participates in open houses, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

  • Assist in instruction of a group in accordance with YMCA guidelines.

  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.

  • Assists with instruction that is designed for the appropriate age group. Ensures participants understandings of instruction.

  • Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).

  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

  • Utilize equipment appropriately with activities and incorporate skill development. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Clean up area after each session. Reports damaged equipment.

  • Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to instill and encourage youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Flexible schedule; Weekdays and/or weekends

  • Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification preferred.

  • Previous experience working with children preferred.

  • Must be able to demonstrate instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

  • Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in accordance to instruction. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have the ability to instruct and actively observe participants. Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, use hands, stoop, and crouch. Regularly lifts up to 10 – 50 pounds.
