Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Engineer. 

 

Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our West Jordan, UT facility and reports to the Quality Manager. 

 

Position Summary:

The position will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to ensure compliance with customer engineering and quality requirements throughout the production process from receipt of purchase order to delivery of product. This includes customer specific quality requirements, procurement and processing requirements, document control, contract review, engineering document review, quality assurance planning, and work instruction/order review and approval. This position requires a high degree of concentration and attention to detail. The position will report to the Quality Manager.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform contract review of customer purchase orders to ensure full understanding and compliance with quality and engineering requirements and assessment of any associated risks.
  • Review and approve work instructions and orders to ensure compliance to customer requirements.
  • Review and approve procedures, forms, and other documented information in compliance with industry and AS9100 standards.
  • Perform internal audits against the quality management system, AS9100 standard, and other standards as relevant to the quality management system.
  • Collaborate with planning, outside processors, and customers to facilitate the creation and approval of controlled manufacturing plans.
  • Assist in the implementation and administration of other quality assurance and company activities including risk management, configuration control, training, auditing, corrective actions, continuous improvement, and preventive actions.
  • Assist with material review board activity to properly disposition nonconforming products, processes, and services.
  • Perform in depth root cause and corrective action analysis including preventive action using 5 Y's, Ishikawa Diagram, or other tool.
  • Manage supplier and customer issued corrective actions.
  • Evaluate special processes (e.g. coating application, welding, NDT/NDI) at external and internal suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier audits to quality standards and in support of supplier selection and improvement.
  • Clearly define critical to quality per customer flow down requirements (e.g. inspection methods, fixtures in house or contract, boundary samples).
  • Evaluate designs for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, and RWC quality standards.
  • Direct program support to ensure customer required on-time delivery and quality requirements are met.
  • Perform statistical process controls for production programs.
  • Generate an AS9102 end item data package for assembly and detail parts.
  • Perform contact and noncontact inspection methods.
  • Perform advanced inspections with PCMM/CMM using Verisurf Software including developing programs, procedures, techniques, calibration methods, equipment evaluation, training, inspection methods, and required administration.
  • Perform NDT/NDI operations including developing programs, procedures, techniques, calibration methods, equipment evaluation, training, testing methods, and required administration for all pertinent NDT/NDI testing.
  • Proficient understanding of and ability to implement quality management systems (e.g. AS9100, NADCAP, AS9102, ISO 9001).
  • Assist in facilitating program movement from one process to the next.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives at external and internal suppliers.
  • Exhibit and promote an attitude that leads to an enga ged and energized workforce.
  • Always operates in compliance with Rock West Composites' quality management system. Adherence to all AS9100 including ISO 900 requirements.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety guidelines, policies, and laws determined by the company, state, and federal authorities.
  • Comply with Rock West Composites' company policies, procedures, and code of business conduct.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering field with Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a technical manufacturing field: welding, fabrication, composite, wood working, etc.
  • Experience with composite materials and processing techniques such as autoclave, RTM, and compression molding. Composite manufacturing experience is a big plus.
  • Must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills and work effectively across all areas of the business.
  • Current computer literacy is a must, including full proficiency in the use of the entire Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Experience with AS9100 quality management system.
  • Experience with visual factory and lean manufacturing methods such as 5S and Kaizen.
  • Experience with contact and noncontact inspection methods. PCMM/CMM using Verisurf Software and NDT/NDI operating proficiency is a big plus.
  • Eligible candidates must be a United States Citizen, United States National, or a person lawfully admitted for permanent residence.

Compensation:

The compensation range for this position falls within $75,000 and $95,000. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset,  and other factors permitted by law.
