Newman University Archivist in Wichita, Kansas

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Archivist to join our team. The Archivist will be responsible for managing and preserving our college's historical records, documents, and artifacts. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, a passion for history, and a commitment to preserving our institution's legacy for future generations. 

Stewardship Statement:

This position is responsible for cultivating and maintaining the institution's Catholic identity and its mission to empower graduates to transform society. As a member of the Newman community, the staff member will join with the institution's sponsors, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC Sisters), to witness God's love in Mission to empower others, foster oneness, celebrate life, form right relationships, and walk as compassionate companions. Additionally, this position contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other faiths, cultures, or backgrounds.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Manage the college's archival collections, including organizing, cataloging, and preserving documents, photographs, publications, and other materials.

  • Develop and implement archival policies and procedures to ensure the proper handling, storage, and access to archival materials.

  • Provide reference assistance to faculty, staff, students, and external researchers seeking access to archival materials.

  • Collaborate with academic departments, administrative offices, and other stakeholders to identify, acquire, and process archival materials relevant to the college's history and mission.

  • Oversee digitization efforts to make archival materials accessible online while ensuring the long-term preservation of original documents.

  • Plan and execute exhibitions, displays, and educational programs showcasing the college's archival collections to engage and inform the campus community and the public.

  • Conduct outreach activities to promote awareness of the college's history and archival resources, including presentations, workshops, and social media campaigns.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of archival collections, acquisitions, loans, and accessions.

  • Stay informed about best practices, trends, and developments in archival management, preservation, and digital archives.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in Archives or Library Science; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to engage both the Newman and external communities.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
