Robert Half Assistant Controller in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania

Description

Our client, a best in class, long established company in the Wilkes-Barre area seeks an assistant controller for a newly created role due to growth.

The successful assistant controller will have the following specific responsibilities:

Assist the controller with all accounting operations for the business as well as cash and risk management.

Assist in preparing quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP as well as all supporting schedules and review.

Prepare and analyze financial reports and annual operating budgets.

Assure adherence to internal controls and financial oversight.

Assure financial reports comply with GAAP and financial reporting standards.

Comply with all local, state, and federal tax and payroll filings and reporting requirements.

Review internal preparation of payroll and quarterly payroll tax returns.

Set achievable financial targets and establish policies, practices and programs to measure performance.

Prepare financial cash projections and analysis and initiate all intercompany transfers and outgoing wires.

Review job cost segregation and fixed asset schedules.

Monitor accounts receivable and assist in collection of outstanding account balances on an as-needed basis.

Review and approve real estate taxes, insurance and utility bills as well as various other large ticket invoices.

Review and ensure all required information (W-9, Certificate of Insurance, Subcontractor Agreement) is a provided for the setup all new vendors.

Compile and provide all information needed for annual Worker's Compensation Audit.

Coordinate and review all insurance proposals, claims and correspondence.

Review Sales and Use Tax, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax and Business Privilege Tax Returns.

Assist in building and enhancing a strong accounting team that provides proactive support and execution of responsibilities supporting the current and future needs of the business.

Mentor and manage the financial and accounting team members which includes employee engagement and professional development.

Requirements

The successful assistant controller will possess the following qualifications:

Degree in Accounting or related – MBA a plus!

CPA a must!

Public/private mix of experience ideal – exposure to both audit and tax side preferable (but audit more important)

10+ years of accounting experience some in an assistant controller/controller or accounting manager role overseeing a team of 3+

Construction, property management, general real estate or manufacturing experience a big plus!

Consolidations and/or roll-up experience a must! There are over 100 entities that roll up to the corporate books.

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar role within the Real Estate & Property or Manufacturing industry

• Proficiency in utilizing ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning systems

• Demonstrated expertise in managing Accounting Functions

• Proficient in Auditing practices and principles

• Thorough understanding of Budget Processes

• Experience in preparing and analyzing Consolidated Financial Statements

• Familiarity with Commercial Real Estate management and transactions

• CPA certification is required

• Proven track record in managing Year End Closings

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently and in a team

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

• Excellent problem-solving abilities

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

• Strong organizational and time management skills

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines

• Willingness to continue professional development.
