Position Purpose:

Assist the Production Superintendent in planning, directing, and overseeing the operations of the Production Department including the operations and maintenance of its sources of supply, water treatment plants, pumping stations, storage tanks, reservoir, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, water quality instrumentation, and aquifer storage recovery facility. Will work alongside local and corporate staff members, consultants, and contractors.

This position will have 2-3 Maintenance Persons as direct reports that focus on mainly electrical and instrumental type maintenance/projects.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operating and maintaining all Production Department facilities and sources of supply.

  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory agency requirements (Safe Drinking Water Regulations, OSHA, State and Federal regulatory agencies, et al).

  • Familiarity with and ability to learn and operate the SCADA Operating system.

  • Participation in preparing, planning and executing to the departments strategic and annual budgeting requirements.

  • Interfacing with government officials, vendors, outside contractors, community organizations, regulatory agencies and others to accomplish department goals.

  • Develop and continuously improve the department's maintenance management and reporting software.

  • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and replacement of plant instrumentation critical for day-to-day operations and regulatory reporting.

  • Develop and continuously improve upon the department's Standard Operating Practices.

  • Assist with managing the operation of the department to meet key performance indicators.

  • Interfaces with the engineering department to ensure that production department capital projects are developed and implemented to meet operational requirements.

  • Planning work schedules, reviewing timesheets, and monitoring and managing overtime.

  • Tracks and ensures adequate training of new and current employees.

  • Fills in for the Production Superintendent during his/her absence.

  • Available for after hour emergencies.

  • Executes special projects as assigned, to include PFA projects and their projected maintenance plan and media changeouts as required.

  • Be able to perform and understand water quality sampling and protocols as part of the Delaware operations

  • Assist with management/applications/renewals of all operational permits and reporting

  • Assist/be responsible for the generator maintenance program including reporting requirements.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.

  • Associate or B.S. Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental or related science preferred but not required.

  • 2-5 years of experience in the water industry, preferably having worked in a surface water treatment plant rated at 5 MGD capacity or greater.

  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment and maintenance a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Operational knowledge of control valves, motors, pumps, and related equipment.

  • Thorough understanding of overall drinking water system operations and regulations including safe drinking water act and permitting.

  • Proficient management, supervisory, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Must be strong in written and oral communication skill sets.

  • Strong leadership qualities.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Negotiating skills for vendor contract procurement and in building good labor relationships.

  • Proficient in the use of a personal computer and in Microsoft Office and Google suite of products.

  • Knowledge of OSHA and other safety regulations such as MSDS.

  • Ability to manage in a Union setting with a collective bargaining agreement

  • Consistently presents a positive company image.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Must be willing to obtain DE State Water Operators Base Level License and all water operating licensing endorsements required by the State of Delaware for operating the Veolia Water Delaware system within 3 years or ability to get via reciprocity upon hire.
