As a manufacturing engineer you will be r esponsible for planning and implementing manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment for new and existing product lines. As a core member of product development teams, plays a key role in the development of successful products by maximizing product quality and minimizing product cost. As a subject matter expert on existing and emerging product assembly methods this position guides new product development with regards to DFMA.

What Will You Do?  

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for: 

PROCESS IMPLEMENTATION 50%

As core team member, participates with product development teams from concept evaluation/selection through prototype construction/evaluation to full production; advises the team on tradeoffs related to manufacturing assembly process (subject matter expert); leads manufacturing process capability studies as needed to support product development; working with the AME and the design team, makes decisions on key elements of manufacturing process design; leads preparation of production area and pilot run activities.

Participate in the maintenance of existing product lines. Insure smooth startups of both new and existing product by identifying problem areas and refining line balances. Establish and maintain time standards, methods, and processes for all significant direct labor operations as assigned. Responsible for cost reduction and value analysis of existing product lines.

ENGINEERING DOCUMENTATION 20%

Review the structural Bills of Material and insure that there are no discrepancies between the structural bills and Engineering bills. Coordinate all deviations from material specifications with corporate design engineering.

ENGINEERING AND CAPITAL PROJECTS 10%

Responsible for Capital equipment planning, budgeting, justification, purchase and installation as assigned. Maintain awareness of new equipment and processes that may benefit the manufacturing process.

SAFETY 15%

To insure that all safety rules and programs are followed and maintained within the assigned area of responsibility. Responsible for proper ergonomics in work station setup, processes, tooling, and safety equipment. Conduct ergonomic audits during production and startups. Regularly incorporate and document safety information, equipment or tooling needs into production processes by station. Assist Supervisors in accepting employees back to original work areas and assist in proper employee assignment. Document equipment and work station process modifications.

SUPERVISION 5%

The manufacturing Engineer may be responsible for supervision of Assembly personnel in the absence of the Production Supervisor when requested to do so by the Engineering Manager. May select, train and evaluate personnel in accordance with established policy. May handle employee discipline in line with company policy and working agreement in the absence of the Production Supervisor. May supervise direct or indirect labor areas as required.

Job Dimensions

Capital Projects: $50,000 to $500,000.

Coordination with Design Engineering, Materials, and Production personnel at all levels.

Communication with parts and equipment venders and contractors in support of production and project responsibilities.

What Do You Need?  

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements: 

  • BSME, BSIE or equivalent and 3 - 5 years of experience in manufacturing systems, equipment, processes, tooling, work measurement, lean manufacturing concept, and project management.

  • Microsoft software, SAP or equivalent knowledge. Good interpersonal skills and works well with all employees. CAD/CAM drawing experience and or training (PRO-E, etc.).
