The Leaf Station Manager position is responsible for the daily operations of assigned flue-cured and burley tobacco receiving warehouses in North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and/or Tennessee. Extensive leaf tobacco knowledge is required. Position accountabilities include the following: working with warehouse operators to schedule daily tobacco deliveries, visiting farms to engage contract tobacco growers on industry issues, operating our proprietary tobacco buying systems, and learning internal standard operating procedures. Assessing grower tobacco quality against internal standards and grading tobacco farmer tobacco, assessing overall crop quality, and projecting remaining season receipts. This position also assists Leaf Agronomy on implementation and development of leaf projects.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • Schedule and supervise farmer leaf deliveries leadingng leaf sampling, and all leaf buying in assigned stations.

  • Identify, evaluate, and contract growers to fill RAI leaf requirements.

  • Communicate daily crop conditions, grade projections and volumes to Area Leaf Directors to improve and handle crop utilization. Communicate market trends, driven tendencies, and grower feedback to Leaf Directors.

  • Negotiate and arbitrate grower price disputes.

  • Guarantee accurate grading and pricing of leaf tobacco to achieve uniformity with other receiving stations.

  • Handle contract receiving station under applicable laws governing contracting of agricultural products.

  • Participate on special projects with the Sr. Manager Contract Programs, Leaf Agronomy, Research and Development and Area Directors.

  • Implement strategies to optimize leaf quality and minimize total costs in assigned areas.

  • Lead contract receiving station personnel and communicate relevant business information and instructions to them.

  • Complete implementation of initiatives built by Leaf Management that transform and convey RAI Total Tobacco Concept within grower supply base.

  • Supervise crop trends to assist in strategically leveraging crop/grade conditions.

  • Assist Area Directors in deployment of offshore buying programs (as applicable).

  • Support implementation of programs to ensure compliance with Company EHS polices, Company Safety Rules and regulatory requirements.

  • Implement programs to support achieving Company EHS and ESG objectives.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • 4 to 7 years of experience in leaf buying/grading/packing leaf tobacco.

  • High school diploma or associate degree in agriculture or BS in business or agronomy field.

  • Possess a working knowledge of agronomic aspects of growing tobacco.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with basic computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of multiple tobacco types: flue-cured, burley, oriental, dark and dark-fired tobaccos.

  • Working knowledge of leaf blending and processing.

  • Adaptability, flexible nature, and willingness to work in a constantly changing environment.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & Power Point).

  • Responsible for operational integration of EHS programs that result in reduction of health & safety risk and environmental impacts.

  • Understand responsibilities for compliance with regulatory requirements and Company standards.

  • Complete EHS-required training. Participate in EHS programs as required by assigned site/role (e.g., PULSAR safety observation program, Safety Triggers).

  • Leaf sensory skill.

  • International leaf buying/leaf packing.
