American Center for Mobility Vehicle Test Support Technician in Ypsilanti, Michigan

Position Overview: As a Vehicle Test Support Technician, you will be supporting the vehicle tests programs through installation, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of test equipment, both mechanical and electrical/electronic components. You will be working closely with test engineers to perform field and lab testing, vehicle system integration, HW / SW upgrade, and data acquisition/recording. Working with internal and external partners, you will support the execution of comprehensive test programs to validate the functionality and effectiveness of in-vehicle technologies contributing to the development of next-generation vehicles equipped with intelligent automation capabilities. 

This is an ideal job for a hands-on person with diverse interests and experience. Given ACM's broader focus on safe, secure and sustainable mobility technologies, this position may allow exposure and potential opportunities to projects in ADAS, CAV, and EV.

Responsibilities:

  1. Test Plan and Test Execution: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conduct testing activities, including functional testing, and scenario-based testing, to assess system behavior and performance under various conditions and validate adherence to test specifications and requirements. Ensure that test execution is as per test plans, and document test results and make them available to team members.

     

  2. Instrumentation and Integration: Installation, calibration, and maintenance of test equipment. Ability to conduct instrumentation, diagnose/troubleshoot problems, conduct tests, change out components, remove instrumentation as needed.

  3. Data Collection: Support collection, storing and maintenance of test data using advanced measurement tools and techniques.
  4. Issue Identification and Resolution: Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues encountered during test preparation, testing, collaborating closely with engineering teams to diagnose root causes, implement corrective actions, and verify effectiveness through iterative testing cycles.
  5. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with internal and external cross-functional teams including software engineers, hardware engineers, systems integrators, and project managers to align testing efforts with project goals, drive continuous improvement.
  6. Tracking and Progress Reporting: Regularly update project stakeholders on testing progress. Provide timely updates on progress, risks and any potential impact on project timelines.

     

Skills and Qualifications:

Associate degree or Diploma in Engineering or related areas.

2 to 4 years of related proven experience in automotive testing environment on closed track and/or on road.

Ability to vehicle instrumentation encompassing differential GPS, IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units), onboard energy measurement systems, vehicle CAN bus infrastructure and logging, CV2X OBU, sensors (LiDAR, Radar, Camera) etc.

Ability to handle and operate pedestrian soft targets, robotic platform, traffic light controller etc.
