About the role

The Trader Sustainability, Bean Sourcing will be responsible for all commercial activities of their allocated region or a specific part of trading the cocoa beans. However, the trader should be flexible as well to take over other regions or commercial roles when this is required at the desk. Therefore, the trader should be aware of the business issues or opportunities, which are presented to the trading team by our in-house suppliers and 3rd party suppliers as well.

In this role, there is a close link with the colleagues in the origin countries. Together with the local sourcing colleagues, the buying plan needs to be executed, contact with the suppliers need to be maintained, claims must be handled, and work towards a smooth logistics execution of the contracts.

Additionally in this role the trader is the link to the Trade Houses community and local suppliers and should at all-time know which suppliers has what on offer and what are the prices. You will have to be able to move quickly and have instant understanding of a newly arisen situation. You will also be selling to Customers / Factories and you need to make sure they have the right beans at the right time. You will work very close with the logistics team and handle the shipping and storage issues. Together with the trading director, a buying plan is created for your region and for each season based on numerous different “drivers”. This plan needs to be executed and where needed adjusted along the way. This is a constant checking of situations.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Maintain excellent contact with the suppliers assigned to you, your stakeholders, management, finance of receiving sites - ensuring readiness for EUDR Compliance

  • Selling to Customers / Factories - managing the relationship, anticipating needs, resolving any issues

  • Drive the P&L of your assigned region and make sure the business and contracting is optimized

  • Be the go to person for operational issues around the trading and logistics desk for your region

  • Execute the sourcing plan

  • Oversee and participate in the shipment allocations and the logistics plan

About you

  • University degree; master or bachelor degree

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in a food / commodity environment

  • Fluent in English Language. Knowledge of French is a plus

  • Preference for understanding of Financials

  • Proven Analytical skills, be able to work with numbers and interpreting them

  • Knowledge / Understanding on certification schemes and sustainability in general

  • Experience with terminal market and financial tools related to risk management of physical trade will be a plus

  • Origin working experience is helpful

  • Fully understanding the risk management of running a trading position

  • Create an understanding of the actors in the supply chain and be a relationship builder

  • Structured way of communicating, precise and easy to connect with

  • Exposure to stakeholders in different departments of a company

  • Ability to maintain the overview and to handle complex issues at the same time

  • Stress resistant and ability to stay focused at all times

  • Able to communicate at all levels - internal and external
